10 Years Later, Portland Police Still Seek Answers in Dion Matthews Jr. Homicide
PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) asked for help from the public to solve the homicide of Dion Matthews Jr. yesterday. Matthews died from a gunshot wound in a parking lot near Dante’s Nightclub at Southwest Third Avenue and West Burnside Street late Sunday night, Oct. 18, 2015.
Central Precinct officers responding to the report of the shooting and medical personnel arrived to find 23-year-old Dion Matthews Jr., deceased from a gunshot wound.
Witnesses say people scattered and sped away after the shooting, and no one called paramedics. Matthews left behind two young sons who are now 12 and nearly 10, the youngest son being born just two months after his father’s death.
PPB Homicide Detectives have been investigating the homicide, and believe that people who witnessed the homicide or have information about what happened have not come forward, even though 10 years have passed.
Crime Stoppers of Oregon offers cash rewards of up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest in any unsolved felony crime. Tipsters must remain anonymous.
