Medford SWAT Uses Chemical Irritants to Flush Burglary Suspect From Grandview Drive Home

MEDFORD, Ore. — In a dramatic arrest, involving the closure of several suburban roads, the Medford Police SWAT team used chemical irritants to flush a 44 year-old burglary suspect from a home in the 1800 block of Grandview Drive.

The incident unfolded at 9 a.m. yesterday after the police received confirmation from the detective division that burglary suspect, Richard Estrada Jr., was an occupant inside the property.

The police surrounded the property and evacuated the occupants. However, there was no sign of Estrada. Believing he was still inside the residence, the SWAT team was deployed to handle the operation.

Multiple rounds of chemical irritants were released inside the house and, after an operation lasting nearly four hours, Estrada exited the property at 12.45 p.m.. He was arrested without further incident.

Estrada was lodged at the Jackson County Jail on charges of first-degree burglary, first-degree theft, and multiple other charges related to the incident.

The case began last week, on July 1, following a burglary at a home in the 1300 block of Lawnridge Road during which multiple firearms and other goods were stolen.
