Ashland Officer Shoots Suspect Armed With Knife Near Shattered Storefronts

ASHLAND, Ore. — An Ashland police officer shot and injured a suspect who approached officers armed with a knife early Monday, October 26, according to the police department.

Police said the shooting took place when officers from the Ashland Police Department (APD) arrived in a business park area in the 200 block of “A” Street, following a report of an activated business alarm at about 2 a.m.

On arrival, officers encountered a suspect leaving an area where multiple businesses had shattered storefront windows, police said.

The suspect approached the officers armed with a knife before one officer fired a department-issued handgun, striking the suspect, according to APD. Ashland Fire & Rescue transported the suspect to Rogue Regional Medical Center for treatment.

An investigation into the officer shooting is in progress by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office, Oregon State Police, and the police departments of Medford and Talent.
