Interstate Theft Crew Targets Oregon Gyms as Stolen Card Charges Reach Nearly $19,000

An organized gang of interstate thieves is robbing gym patrons while they are working out, often purchasing high-value items at nearby retail outlets before the thefts are detected.

The Beaverton Police Department warns that the gang operates in at least five states, targeting gyms, fitness centers, and other workout facilities.

While patrons are concentrating on their physical regimens, gang members steal wallets, credit cards, and personal belongings.

They then travel to nearby retail stores and make purchases of expensive items such as gold bars, electronics, and jewelry, before the victims detect the thefts.

Tidings Insight
This case is about speed as much as theft. Police say the crew moves from gyms to nearby retailers before victims notice missing cards or can cancel them.

Thieves Spend Close to $19,000 on Beaverton Gym Patron’s Stolen Credit Card

A Beaverton gym patron became a victim on April 30 when his credit card was stolen and used at a local Costco to purchase $18,759.96 worth of gold bars.

Tidings Insight
The Costco detail matters because police say one suspect used the victim’s identity to open a membership, turning a stolen card case into possible identity theft evidence.

The police believe three Eastern European male victims were involved in the incident, and in other similar inter-state thefts.
