Fielder Mountain Fire Grows to 450 Acres as Level 3 Evacuations Hit Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — Firefighters at the Fielder Mountain Fire in southwest Oregon- estimated to cover 450 acres-  worked to suppress the fire overnight after a relentless air and ground attack throughout the afternoon and evening.

Firefighters are working through steep terrain on the Fielder Mountain fire that started yesterday afternoon, as it approached the top of the ridge, with hazardous trees adding another challenge for crews on the ground. Night resources were fully engaged on the fire last night, and aircraft were released for the evening due to diminishing daylight.

Temperatures have cooled significantly in the meantime, with good humidity recovery expected overnight, giving firefighters a better opportunity to work directly on the fire and make progress through the night. No structures have been reported as lost so far.

The ODF Incident Management Team 1 is expected to arrive Friday afternoon. The official cause of the fire remains under investigation.
