California Murder Suspect Found in Oregon Forest Using Dead Man’s Identity and Pickup Truck
A man suspected of murder was arrested by members of the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) SWAT Team in the Mt. Hood National Forest last Sunday.
When arrested, Cris Leroy Jones was using the identity and the pickup truck of the 61-year-old murdered man, Daniel Joslin.
The Body of the Murder Victim Was Found Buried in His Backyard
Californian investigators recovered Joslin’s remains from San Bernardino County on Wednesday, July 29. He was found buried in the backyard of a Yucca Valley residence that he had shared with the suspect.
Three days before the arrest, a patrol deputy from the CCSO contacted a camper near Harriet Lake in the Mt. Hood National Forest. The camper, who was later identified as the suspect, told the deputy that he was Daniel Joslin and the registered owner of a black Ford F-150 pickup truck.
The vehicle registration license plate matched the name provided, but records indicated that Joslin had recently been reported missing.
Working with California investigators, officers identified the campsite individual as Cris Jones, a murder suspect.
- June 26 : Joslin last contacts family and friends.
- July 3 : Joslin reported missing in California.
- July 29 : Investigators find remains buried at his Yucca Valley home.
- July 30 : Oregon deputy encounters Jones near Harriet Lake.
- August 2 : CCSO SWAT arrests Jones without incident.
On Sunday, August 2, the CCSO SWAT team was deployed to the campsite. An Air Unit located Jones and directed team members to his location. Jones was then taken into custody without incident.
Jones (60) is lodged at the Clackamas County Jail, where he was interviewed by detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Jones remains in custody pending extradition to California on a murder charge.
