Oregon Wildfire Risk Grows as Red Flag Conditions Spread Across the State

Oregon fire officials are seeking the public’s cooperation as critical fire weather conditions, including Red Flag Watches and Warnings, are underway across the state, creating an increased risk for rapid wildfire growth.

Oregon Fire Officials Urge Public To Avoid Sparking Fires & Stay Informed

With constantly changing weather conditions, Oregon fire officials urged residents and visitors to help prevent wildfires by avoiding activities that could spark a fire and following local fire restrictions.

With lightning strikes over the past 10 days and several fires burning across the state, Oregonians should also stay informed about changing conditions and monitor evacuation information. Be prepared to act quickly if conditions change.

Jeff Fedrizzi, Chair of the Pacific Northwest Wildfire Coordinating Group, said, “Right now, everyone needs to be extremely careful.”

Oregon and Washington fire restrictions and area closures are in place to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires during this period of extreme fire danger. Common activities that can ignite dry vegetation include:

• Mowing dry grass
• Driving off designated roads
• Operating equipment that creates sparks
• Building campfires
