PORTLAND, Ore. — Thirty-five-year-old Jon Pharris Ray French of Portland will be sentenced on September 14 for the death of his girlfriend by blunt force trauma.

Her Body Was Found Under a Blanket on the Backseat of Her Car

Jeannie Enyeart was found under a blanket on the backseat of her vehicle on February 5, 2024, following an investigation into her disappearance the previous month.

French pleaded no contest to first degree manslaughter and guilty to second degree abuse of a corpse when he appeared in the Multnomah County Circuit Court on Friday.

Enyeart’s son reported her missing to the Portland Police on January 29, 2024, saying it was unusual for his mother not to respond to his calls.

When police questioned French, he told them he had last seen Enyeart the previous day and that they should find her car parked in the driveway of the Portland home they shared.

The Car Had Crashed Into a Snowbank in Washington State

However, the car was found to have crashed into a snowbank in rural Stevenson in Washington State. An investigation revealed that the car had been towed away from the scene. According to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office, French was driving the vehicle when it crashed.

Investigators searched the vehicle and found Enyeart’s body under a blanket on the backseat. An autopsy revealed that blunt force trauma to the neck was the cause of death.

PPB Detectives Singled Out For Their Outstanding Work on the Case

Portland Police Bureau Homicide detectives Brent Christensen and Scott Broughton received a special mention by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office “for their outstanding work” on the case.

District Attorney Todd Jackson and Deputy District Attorney Ryan Solomon handled the case for the state.
