Oregon Man Arrested After 80-Year-Old Woman Found Dead in Suitcase Along Willamette River

Multnomah County Sheriff officers investigating the find of an 80-year-old woman’s body in a suitcase on the banks of the Willamette River on Monday arrested a man they believe to be the killer at about 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.

The medical examiner concluded that the deceased, Judy Hurley, also known as Judy Fivecoats, who was found in a suitcase on the west bank of the river on the south end of Sauvie Island, about a mile drive from Wapato Bridge, died by homicide.

The suspected killer, Michael Darwin Moody, 54, was arrested in a St. Johns neighborhood apartment and has been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree abuse of a corpse.

The Multnomah County sheriff’s office asks anyone with information about the case to call them at 503-988-0560, using case number 25-6042 as a reference.
