Oregon Family Needs Help With Medical Costs After Birth Of Premature Baby In Car Crash
A Coos Bay family has opened a GoFundMe page to raise money that will go towards medical expenses for their son, who was born just 25 weeks into the pregnancy after a car crash in Coos Bay on Sunday.
Oregon State Police (OSP) responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 42 at about noon on March 2. They indicated that the mother, Woodland Jewel Engen, 24, was a passenger in an eastbound Toyota Avalon.
A westbound Toyota 4Runner struck the car after it lost traction and slid sideways. According to OSP investigators, weather conditions contributed to the crash.
The crash occurred as the family headed to Wildlife Safari in Winston to celebrate their other son’s birthday.
Woodland was knocked unconscious and flown to RiverBend Hospital, where doctors found that her pelvis was broken. After an emergency C-section was performed, the baby was born weighing one pound.
The Woodland family needs help with medical expenses, and donors can make contributions on the GoFundMe page.
