East Evans Creek Fire Community Meeting Set Today as Containment Reaches 8%

JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — While firefighters have made significant progress holding containment lines over the last 36 hours, taking advantage of a brief window of cooler weather to reach 8% containment on the 13,999-acre blaze, ODF South West confirmed that a community meeting is planned for today at 2:00 p.m. to provide a brief operational update.

As of this morning, all primary control lines around the main fire and its detached spot fires are holding. Crews are shifting their focus today to the fire’s northern flank, where they are actively building new lines and removing hazard trees that threaten ground personnel.

Hand crews are also trekking into the steep southern tip of the Board Mountain spot fire- an area inaccessible to bulldozers- to complete essential fireline construction.

Structural protection teams remain engaged, transitioning from active mop-up to mobile patrol status in areas where heat has been successfully reduced.

But the situation remains precarious as a return to critical fire weather is expected today. Forecasters anticipate temperatures peaking in the mid-90s, with relative humidity dropping near 20% and afternoon wind gusts reaching up to 25 mph.

These conditions heighten the risk of new spot fires potentially breaching established lines.

On the positive side, the shifting weather is expected to lift the morning smoke inversion, allowing firefighting aircraft to resume operations and provide crucial mapping intelligence.
