75-Year-Old Oregon City Hiker Rescued After Knee Injury on Salmon River Trail

CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. โ€” Clackamas County Sheriffโ€™s Office Search and Rescue volunteers took six-and-a-half hours to reach and rescue a 75-year-old woman hiking on the Salmon River Trail.

The rescue operation began shortly before 1 p.m. on Friday, June 19, when coordinators received a report about the injured hiker.

They learned that Caroline Iverson (75) of Oregon City had suffered a knee injury and was unable to hike back to the trailhead.

A Stokes litter lets rescuers carry or wheel an injured person over trail terrain, but the process is slow when crews must hike in and out.

Volunteer Search and Rescue volunteers located Caroline after a 2.5-mile hike. After assessing her condition, they deployed a wheeled Stokes litter to transport her safely back to the trailhead, which they reached at about 7.30 p.m.
