Washington Man Gets 2 Years in Portland Federal Escape Case After Failing to Report to Re-Entry Center
A felon, who violated his release conditions for a third time, was sentenced to two years in federal prison when he appeared in the U.S. District Court in Portland yesterday.
Brandon Charles Nelson (40), from Washington state, was also sentenced to three years of supervised release after he was found guilty of escape for failing to report to the Northwest Regional Re-Entry Center (NWRRC) in Portland.
According to court documents, Nelson met the criteria for placement in a residential re-entry center while he was in custody at Victorville Federal Corrections Complex in Southern California.
He Was Arrested By the U.S. Marshals Service
Nelson absconded after he was referred to the NWRRC, but was then arrested on December 5, 2025, by the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS).
On December 16, 2025, Nelson was indicted by a grand jury in Portland for escaping from custody.
- Feb 25 2025 : Release supervision revoked after third violation.
- Nov 20 2025 : Nelson was required to report to NWRRC.
- Dec 5 2025 : U.S. Marshals arrested Nelson.
- Dec 16 2025 : Portland grand jury indicted him.
- Feb 25 2026 : Jury found him guilty of escape.
- June 2026 : Sentenced to 24 months in prison.
On February 25, 2026, following a two-day trial, Nelson’s supervision was revoked after he violated his release conditions for the third time. He was sentenced to 12 months in prison and 18 months of supervised release.
However, yesterday that sentence was altered to two years in federal prison and three years of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the USMS and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Arin Heinz.
