Springfield Man Accused of Firing Rifle at Police After Domestic Assault Call

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A 38-year-old Springfield man, Zachery Greer, has been charged with attempted murder after shooting at police officers on Friday night. He is lodged at Lane County Jail.

The incident occurred at 10.30 p.m. when police received a report of an assault on a family member by a man armed with a gun.

The assailant allegedly fired a shot before leaving the residence in the 600 block of Janus Street, a subdivision near West Centennial Boulevard and Pioneer Parkway.

Police officers located Greer next to the Willamette River, near West D Street and Rainbow Drive.

He allegedly refused to adhere to police instructions and fired a rifle at the officers, who returned fire.

No one was injured in the exchange.
