Salem Fireworks Explosion Injures Five and Damages Homes After Police Say Illegal Mortars Were Used

SALEM, Ore. — An illegal fireworks explosion at a residence in the 4200 block of Prairie Star Court N, Salem, caused significant injuries and property damage on July 4.

At about 10:44 p.m. on Independence Day, Salem Fire and Patrol officers responding to a report of an explosion found multiple people with injuries. The explosion had also caused damage to vehicles and homes in the surrounding area.

The Salem Police Bomb Squad, the Fire Department’s Fire Marshal, and the Crime Lab all responded to assist with the post-blast investigation led by the Felony Crimes Unit detectives.
