Genentech Plans New Hillsboro Drug Device Facility With 450 Jobs Expected

HILLSBORO, Ore. — Genentech is investing approximately $750 million to expand its manufacturing campus in Hillsboro, Oregon, in a move expected to create 450 jobs and strengthen the U.S. pharmaceutical supply chain.

Genentech Invests $750M in Facility That Will Create 450 Jobs

Announced on August 20, Genentech’s expansion will add a new device fill-finish manufacturing facility to the company’s existing 75-acre campus.

The project is expected to create 250 high-wage manufacturing jobs, while approximately 200 construction jobs will be supported during the facility’s development.

The investment will roughly double the size of Genentech’s existing Hillsboro facility and add end-to-end device-filling capabilities.

The new facility will manufacture advanced drug-delivery devices, including pre-filled syringes and autoinjectors. Commercial operations are expected to begin in 2031.

These technologies are increasingly important in making treatments more convenient for patients, particularly by allowing some medicines to be administered outside traditional hospital settings.

Designed to be flexible, the facility will accommodate both high- and low-volume production across Genentech’s portfolio, allowing the company to adapt as manufacturing requirements change.

Genentech said the expansion is part of a broader commitment by the company and its parent, Roche,  to U.S. manufacturing and research and development.

The company views the Hillsboro site as an important part of its domestic manufacturing network, citing its existing infrastructure, skilled workforce and nearly 20 years of operations in Oregon.

Established in 2006, the Hillsboro campus currently supports medicines across therapeutic areas including oncology, immunology and neurology. The expansion will add device-filling capabilities and is intended to improve the resilience and security of domestic medicine production.

Oregon Governor Tina Kotek welcomed the investment, saying it demonstrates the state’s strength in advanced manufacturing and life sciences.
