Roseburg Man Arrested for Stealing Seven Exotic Lizards from Local Business
ROSEBURG, Ore. — A Roseburg man, 29-year-old Jesse Lee Proffitt, was arrested on Wednesday night after surveillance videos in Jungle Things Oregon, a Roseburg business, showed him stealing seven exotic lizards.
Responding to reports of a theft at 11:30 p.m. on May 21, Roseburg Police Department (RDP) officers were informed by the victim that the alleged theft occurred while she was away from her business for about six hours.
Douglas County Circuit Court records indicate that the stolen lizards were her pets and not part of the retail side of her business.
The documents also indicate that camera footage captured Proffitt walking out of the business with a Rhino iguana, an Australian Water Dragon, and an Albino bullsnake. Roseburg police officials later contacted Proffitt at the business, where he admitted to stealing and releasing the iguana and a Monitor lizard.
The stolen reptiles, valued at $1,650, have not been recovered, but Proffitt was arrested and taken to the Douglas County Jail. He faces a charge of first-degree theft.
