Oregon’s Columbia Sportswear Is Giving Away a Doomsday Bunker Stocked With Gear and a Robot Dog

One contestant can win a 40-foot survival bunker stocked with outdoor gear, emergency supplies, and a robotic dog, as part of Oregon-based Columbia Sportswear’s competition inviting Americans to demonstrate their survival skills.

Preparing for the End of the World With Canned Jackets and a Robotic Dog

Dubbed the “Don’t Panic Room,” the modified shipping container is designed for a dystopian-type scenario in which everyday systems, infrastructure, and supplies are disrupted. Columbia described the prize as an off-grid refuge equipped for life when normal routines are no longer possible.

The competition, announced on October 28, offers a container that includes a bunk bed with a small kitchen and dining area. Also included are a composting toilet and a robotic dog named Rocky.

Shelves are stocked with survival equipment, footwear, tools, and other supplies, like Columbia’s distinctive canned jackets and gear that are intended to be opened in an emergency.

The company says it doesn’t subscribe to predictions of the world’s end, and it’s not just a bunker giveaway to someone wealthy enough to buy one. Columbia sees the competition as an opportunity to reward practical outdoor skills.

Columbia Bunker Contest Rules and Winner Responsibilities

The competition is open to legal residents aged 18 or older in the contiguous United States and the District of Columbia, with a minimum age of 19 in Alabama and Nebraska. No purchase is necessary.

Entries close at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on November 24. The official contest rules set out the entry requirements, judging criteria and winner responsibilities.

To enter, submit a video of no more than five minutes demonstrating your survival skills in a fictional emergency scenario. Judges will choose the entry with the highest score.

The prize is a modified 40-foot-by-8-foot shipping container plus $35,000 in cash. Columbia estimates the total retail value at $135,000, with the cash intended to help offset, if not fully cover, the winner’s tax liability.

But there are catches: the bunker isn’t a manufactured home or a building constructed to residential or commercial building codes. The winner will be responsible for its placement, installation, maintenance, operation, and ownership after delivery.

Good luck!
