Oregon Ducks gave up zero sacks on Saturday. While they rushed for 3.0 yards per carry in the first two games of the year, in the Beavers games, the Ducks gained 7.5 yards per clip. The team also managed zero penalties in the 128th Civil War.

The Ducks linemen stayed consistent with a line of Josh Conerly Jr., Nishad Strother, Poncho Laloulu, Marcus Harper, and Ajani Cornelius, rushing for 240 yards and 4 touchdowns.

But there was reason for concern at the Ducks’ defense that gave up 218 yards and 14 points while allowing a 3rd and 4th down conversion rate of 70% (7-for-10). After Lanning and defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi made the proper adjustments at the half, in the final 30 minutes, the Ducks steamrolled Oregon State’s defense.

After the adjustment, Oregon pitched a shutout, giving just 91 total yards, 15 rushing yards, a 12.5% conversion rate (1-for-8), and forcing three punts. Sophomore DE Teitum Tuioti said after the game. “I think it was just a mentality thing. Up front, we just had to do our job.”

Duck Emerge As The Heroes In 128th Oregon Ducks Vs State Civil War

With closer-than-expected wins in the first two weeks of the season, this time around the Ducks’ offensive line were the heroes on Saturday in the 128th Civil War.

Linebacker Bryce Boettcher had a team-high 10 tackles and got a pair of pass breakups on the first drive of the game.

Leading the team with 24 tackles so far this year, Boettcher flew all over the field throughout the day and may have been one of the Ducks’ best players on the field.

Dillon Gabriel got an opportunity to run on Saturday and got out of the pocket several times, showing just how dynamic he can be in the ground game. By the end, he had notched up 4 rushes for 64 yards and 1 TD, including a 55-yard TD rush on an option keeper to the left side featuring a fake pitch that left the defender in no man’s land.

The Ducks instilled a belief that they can again compete at a championship level and while there were some troubling habits seen in the first half, the adjustments in the second half made it clear this Oregon team still has the high ceiling that fans expected from the start.
