Grants Pass ‘A Street Resting Area’ Resident Arrested For Arson After Tarp & Screen Burn

GRANTS PASS, Ore. — After a fire at the public “A Street Resting Area” in Grants Pass was contained on Monday at about 5:10 p.m., officers from the Grants Pass Police Department arrested Jack Doak, a 35-year-old resident of the resting area, on arson charges.

The police and Grants Pass Fire & Rescue, attending the resting area, noticed locals pouring water bottles on a tarp that had caught fire.

After the fire was extinguished, it became apparent that about  8 feet of city-owned screening attached to the fence for privacy had been destroyed.

The Community Response Team investigator, Grants Pass Police Sergeant Nieminen, determined that Doak had intentionally set the fire. The fire did not cause injuries.

On Tuesday, Doak was arrested and lodged at the Josephine County Jail on second-degree Criminal Mischief and Reckless Burning charges.
