16-Year-Old Turns Himself In After Salem Police Search Following Downtown Shooting

SALEM, Ore. — A 16-year-old youth turned himself in at the Marion County Juvenile Department yesterday for his involvement in a shooting in downtown Salem a week ago.

The shooting occurred at 6.20 p.m. on May 20, in which a 17-year-old youth suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooter had fled the scene by the time officers from the Salem Police Department arrived at 220 High Street SE.

An Intensive Search Operation Failed to Flush the Shooter

Although detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit established his identity, and a search operation involving the use of drones, canines, and multiple law enforcement agencies was immediately launched, all attempts failed to flush the shooter.
