With 60% of Oregon Tax Returns Still Unfiled, Deadline Nears and Refund Delays Loom
As the April 15, 2026, tax season deadline approaches, many tax returns remain outstanding, yet taxpayers still want to avoid delays.
The Oregon Department of Revenue has processed 860,000 electronically-filed personal income tax returns and issued 720,000 refunds.

ODR indicated that most taxpayers will get refunds within two weeks of e-filing. Still, some returns may take longer because of additional reviews.
Around 60% of the anticipated 2.2 million returns have yet to be filed, with less than five weeks remaining before the April 15 deadline.
Oregon is returning a $1.41 billion revenue surplus “kicker” to taxpayers in 2026, affecting either their refund or the state tax they owe.
The department earlier indicated that IRS delays could stall Oregon Tax Refunds unless you file electronically.
Paper-filed returns will experience delays this year, with processing only starting at the end of March, and refunds will begin in early April. Common tax refund delays include filing electronically but opting for a check, filing duplicates, identity verification needs, and errors on returns.
Enhanced last year, Oregon’s “Where’s My Refund?” tool now gives more details about your refund status. It notifies users when additional information is needed.
Taxpayers are encouraged to create a Revenue Online account for full access to the tool’s features, but you will need to wait one week after e-filing before using the “Where’s My Refund?” tool.
