Portland Police Officer Resigns Before Sentencing in Domestic Violence Case

PORTLAND, Ore. — A Portland police officer, who defied a court ruling and continued tracking his domestic partner’s movements via burner phones, will be sentenced on July 1.

According to court records, 27-year-old Jimmy Pryce, who has since resigned from the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), has pleaded guilty to charges of assault and strangulation of his domestic partner.

Pryce was released after he was arraigned on charges of strangulation, fourth-degree assault, and harassment last November. However, he was rearrested in May for alleged violation of his release agreement.

Tidings Timeline

He Contacted His Partner Via Burner Phones

Pryce had been ordered to refrain from contacting his domestic partner, but the woman told the PPB that he had contacted her via burner phones, demanding to know her location.

Tidings Insight
In domestic violence cases, release agreements often bar contact with the alleged victim. A new contact allegation can lead to rearrest before sentencing.

Although Pryce faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison, the state will enter a 60-day sentence request as part of a plea agreement.
