A Mexican-born man with U.S. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status was sentenced yesterday for trafficking firearms in the U.S. District Court in Portland.

Vincente Cortes Quiroz (37), who bought over 120 firearms from licensed firearms dealers in Oregon since 2014, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release.

He Falsely Claimed To Be a U.S. Citizen

Court documents reveal that Quiroz falsely claimed to be a U.S. citizen when completing firearm purchase forms.

Investigators seized over 70 firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition from his residence, as well as two vehicles that Quiroz used when committing his crime.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, the Salem Police Department, the WIN HIDTA Taskforce, the Washington County Community Violence Reduction Team (CoVRT), the Drug Enforcement Agency, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and Sheridan Fire District.

The Oregon-Idaho High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program, an Office of National Drug Control Policy-sponsored counter-drug grant program, collaborated and helped fund the multi-agency drug enforcement initiative.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Arin C. Heinz, Jessica Keefer, and Julia Jarrett prosecuted the case.
