Oregon Gas Prices Remain Near $5 a Gallon Even as National Average Falls
National gas prices are slowly going down, but Oregon drivers are still paying among the highest prices in the country, nearly a dollar above the U.S. average, with several metro areas still around $5 a gallon.
Oregon Drivers Still Paying Nearly $1 More Than the National Average
With the price of crude oil remaining below $100 per barrel- settling at $96.02 a barrel last Wednesday, AAA’s national update indicates that the U.S. average dropped 18 cents in a week to $4.24, the second straight weekly decline.

But Oregon was still at $5.119 as of June 7, putting the state about 95 cents higher than the national average.
On a local level, Portland-Vancouver was $5.250, Eugene-Springfield was $5.081, Medford-Ashland was $5.046, Salem was $5.077, and Bend was $4.931.

But the price of gas remains high. One year ago, the national average was $3.144. In Oregon, gas was, on average, $3.9740- a difference of 83 cents. Drivers embarking on summer road trips would be well advised to plan around gas prices:
- Top 3 most expensive gas states: California ($5.97), Washington ($5.66), Hawaii ($5.62)
- Top 3 least expensive gas states: Indiana ($3.55), Texas ($3.72), Oklahoma ($3.74).
Uncertainty also still lingers over when the Strait of Hormuz will fully reopen and resume traffic. AAA says this means oil prices are unlikely to decrease dramatically as summertime gasoline demand starts to rise.
Comparatively, the national average per kilowatt-hour of electricity at a public EV charging station remained unchanged this past week at 41 cents. You can find current gas and electric charging prices along your travel route using the AAA TripTik Travel planner.
