Oregon Bias Crime Arrest Attempt Ends in Fatal Police Shooting Near Highway 101

A 49-year-old man, Daniel Edward Noonan, was fatally shot on Wednesday after engaging Oregon State Police (OSP) and Newport, Oregon, Police Department officers sent to arrest him for various bias crimes at the intersection of Highway 101 and Siletz Highway (Hwy. 229) in gunfire.

OSP had developed probable cause to arrest Noonan for various bias-related crimes and was seeking to arrest him. Within moments of their arrival, officers from both police departments who came into contact with Noonan at 3:51 p.m. were immediately engaged in gunfire from Noonan. Officers responded with deadly physical force.

The Lincoln City Police Department confirmed that Noonan was critically injured during the exchange and received emergency medical care.

He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared deceased. No law enforcement personnel or community members were injured during the incident.
