JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — Following a DUII crash on Sunday that resulted in the nearly 100-year-old Lampman Road Bridge over Galls Creek in Gold Hill being significantly damaged- including structural damage- the driver was arrested. The bridge was closed indefinitely after being deemed unsafe.

Lampman Road Bridge Closed After Crash- DUII Driver Arrested

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputies responding to the crash at 8:34 PM in the 1600 block of Lampman Road found a 27-year-old female driver walking away from the crash scene, showing signs of impairment.

Tidings Timeline
  • Sunday 8:34 PM: Deputies respond to Lampman Road.
  • Crash scene: Driver found walking away with impairment signs.
  • Testing: Breath sample shows 0.24% BAC.
  • After arrest: Bridge deemed unsafe for any load.
  • Now: Bridge closed to all traffic during replacement work.

After the driver consented to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs), a breath test showed a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.24%.

Deputies arrested the woman for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII). The Jackson County Roads and Parks Department confirmed that the crash caused extensive damage to the historic steel truss bridge and, following an assessment, determined the bridge is unsafe for any load.

Steve Lambert, Jackson County Roads and Parks Director, indicated that grant funding to replace the bridge and design has already been secured and is well underway.

Tidings Insight
The bridge is older than its Gold Hill service life: first built in 1912, then relocated in 1938. That helps explain why replacement planning was already underway.

But the Lampman Road Bridge is now closed to all vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic to ensure the safety of residents.

Travelers must use alternate routes. This will be an extended closure as officials continue to work with ODOT through the design and procurement process.
