Jackson County Fatal Hit-And-Run Investigation Leads to Arrest Within Hours

JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies arrested the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run case after a pedestrian was killed in a Gold Hill hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning.

A crash occurred sometime between 1:30 and 3:12 AM early Saturday morning. Responding to a call for a man down on Access Road Saturday, May 16, at 3:12 AM near Jackson County Fire District 3 Gold Hill Station and Blackwell Road, JCSO deputies and medics found a 47-year-old man, but he had tragically died from his injuries before they arrived.

The pedestrian’s name has not yet been released, but his next of kin has been notified.

Investigators indicated that the vehicle involved was believed to have been traveling north on Access Road (off Interstate 5 exit 40) toward the intersection with Blackwell Road.

They asked the public for help identifying likely damage to the headlight, hood, and/or windshield of the suspect vehicle.

Tidings Insight
Under Oregon law, a driver involved in a crash with injury or death must stop, give information and help arrange medical aid.

Although the suspect vehicle’s make and model were initially unknown, police arrested the suspect before 7:00 PM last night.

Tidings Insight
An arrest means deputies identified a suspect, but crash reconstruction can still determine speed, direction of travel, vehicle damage and whether more charges are supported.
