Gunshot Call Leads Douglas County Deputies to Two Bleeding Men Who Refused to Speak
ROSEBURG, Ore. — Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) officers responding to a report of males fighting and a gunshot heard in Roseburg at about 6:30 pm Tuesday found two men- one bleeding, but both uncooperative.
The tense situation was defused after the DCSO Tactical Response Team intervened with a K-9 officer.
On arrival at the incident in the 1800 block of Melqua Road in Roseburg, deputies found two Roseburg men, aged 45 and 51, seated in the cab of a parked grey 1994 Toyota pickup.
The older man was bleeding and appeared injured. Still, both refused to cooperate with efforts to contact them to evaluate the wounded man’s medical condition.
The Roseburg Police Department, Winston Police Department, Oregon State Police, Sutherlin Police Department, Umpqua Valley Ambulance, and Central Douglas Fire and Rescue assisted DCSO.
Negotiators from the DCSO Crisis Negotiations Team attempted to de-escalate and achieve a peaceful resolution for over four hours.
However, after a K-9 officer contacted the younger male, he was apprehended despite remaining uncooperative. It was clear that the second man had injuries from an assault. While executing a search warrant for the pickup truck, deputies found two handguns and ammunition inside.
Both men were taken by Umpqua Valley Ambulance to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. Due to the injuries sustained, charges have been referred to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.
