Sanctuary Cities Like Portland Targeted as ICE Plans Sweeping Deportation Surge
PORTLAND, Ore. — Making the country ‘safe’ could come at a terrible price for sanctuary states such as Oregon. This is the grim picture painted by President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan.
He Warns That ICE Activities Will Be Threefold More Intense in Portland
Homan warns that immigration agents will be ‘tripling down’ on sanctuary cities, naming Portland, during an interview on Fox Business News yesterday.
The border Czar says that bad-mouthing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents could end in bloodshed. Homan was referring to critics of ICE tactics, adding that they had likened the immigration agents to Nazis, racists and terrorists.
No matter the amount of criticism, Homan said ICE agents will be ‘tripling down’ their efforts to enforce the law against immigrants, and continue to ‘make the country safe.’
He reinforced his statement with the grim reminder that uncooperative cities like Portland, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York will bear the brunt of ICE deployments to enforce immigration laws.
The border Czar said federal officials will continue to carry out the instructions of Trump’s executive order – to deploy agents to facilitate mass deportations.
ICE Will Not Be Bullied By Portland
During the program, the host referred to the protest outside ICE offices in Portland last month, where 22 people were arrested. Homan replied that he will be ‘going to Portland’ and that the city is ‘not going to bully us.’
Oregon has already suffered the wrath of ICE immigration enforcement with agents arresting people outside courtrooms and whisking them away to detention centers. Others have been arrested while peacefully on their way to work.
In yet another display of hard-line policy enforcement, Homan said if local jails cannot accept detained immigrants because of sanctuary policies, then ICE agents will enforce the law at work sites.
Throwing down another cold, hard fact, Homan said, apart from immigration agents, ICE agents will hone in on anyone living in the country without legal status.
He said sanctuary cities will get what they don’t want – more ICE agents on the streets, and ‘more collateral’ arrests.
