The Data Extraction Was Uncovered During a Serious Misconduct Investigation

SRCI states that the ‘data extraction’ was uncovered during an investigation into allegations of serious misconduct by the employee.

A data forensics company has been appointed by the Department of Corrections (DOC) to establish the identity of the individuals impacted by the extraction. The process is expected to take several weeks to complete.

Everyone affected will be notified by first-class mail.

Those Affected Are Asked to Remain Vigilant

In the interim, the DOC is recommending that the individuals concerned remain vigilant.

Tidings Insight
Until the forensic review identifies whose data was accessed, affected groups may not know their risk. Monitoring records helps catch misuse early.

They are also asked to consider monitoring their personal records for any unusual activity, immediately report suspicious identity theft or fraud to their financial institutions or employers, and consider placing a security freeze or fraud alert with credit reporting agencies if they believe that their confidential information has been compromised.

The DOC assures all those involved that it is working closely with the Oregon Department of Justice, the Oregon State Police, the Oregon Department of Administrative Services, and local law enforcement agencies.

The SRCI is a medium-security men’s prison in Ontario, Oregon. Opened in 1991, it is the largest facility in the Oregon Department of Corrections, with a capacity for about 3,000 inmates.
