Kotek said that despite there being uncertainty of what may happen after Trump takes office, she knows that no matter what happens at national level, Oregonians can come together and protect what they love in their state.
She is already consulting with other governors to get advice from them, especially women governors. Kotek said there is a lot of rhetoric and she will have to see what is proposed.
Kotek has already taken some steps to protect the rights of Oregonians. She immediately assessed Oregon’s Mifepristone stockpile- the drug is an important medication for miscarriages and other medically needed abortions.
The state’s current stockpile expires in September, and Kotek has worked to secure a new supply of the drug, which will last till fall of 2028.
Kotek Addresses Immigrant Rights Issues In Oregon
On immigrant rights, Trump said on a social media post that he intends to use military assets to carry out mass deportations.
Kotek said immigrants are essential to the state, and she has always been a strong champion for protecting our immigrants.
While she indicated that it’s unclear what the threatened military measures might look like, she promised to continue offering support to immigrants in Oregon.
Both House and Senate Republicans for Oregon have not commented but indicated that their comments would be held on potential Trump policies until the policies have been proposed.
Kotek said, “I represent all of Oregon; I am standing up for Oregonians.”
Madam Governor, Please don’t tell us you represent all of Oregon. You represent Portland Metro, Eugene, Bend and Salem – that’s it.!! The rest of us are only the stepchildren the get what you shove down our throats.
AMEN
