MEDFORD, Ore. — After a high-speed car chase on Interstate 5, when spike strips finally brought their vehicle to a stop, suspected armed robbers at a pharmacy chain store were arrested by Medford Police officers.

The couple, whose identities have not been revealed by the police, were taken into custody at lunchtime yesterday after a patrol officer spotted their vehicle near Sage Road and Highway 238.

The robbery occurred at Walgreens on West Main Street at 8.45 p.m. on Sunday. Store employees told police that they confronted the couple who were trying to leave the store with a shopping cart full of unpaid merchandise.

During the confrontation, the female suspect allegedly produced a firearm, pointed it at an employee, and threatened to shoot. Their account of the incident was corroborated by store security footage.

The couple then fled the scene in a white SUV and, despite a police search, remained undetected until yesterday when a car chase ensued after the couple drove away at high speed.

Supported by Oregon State Police and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Medford law enforcement followed the suspects through several areas before going onto Interstate 5, traveling northbound. After several failed spike strip stop attempts, they were finally arrested near milepost 54.

This is an ongoing investigation, and the police will provide more information as it becomes available.
