Judge Rules Portland Not Liable for Noise Complaints From ICE Protest Encampment
PORTLAND, Ore. — A handful of people, protesting the Trump administration’s immigration laws, who are camped outside the ICE facility in Portland, were instrumental in a lawsuit filed by a resident to force the City of Portland to enforce noise pollution measures.
However, a judge has dismissed the lawsuit complaining about the loud noise made by protesters outside the ICE building and ruled in favor of the City of Portland. The protesters have camped outside the ICE premises for more than two months.
In the lawsuit, filed on behalf of a low-income resident, lawyer Thomas Rask claims that his client has been unable to sleep for weeks because of the noise made by the protesters every night. Rask is now considering other options.
Co-counsel submitted an activity log of the Portland Police Bureau in which a scene that occurred on June 24 is described as a large number of protesters who blocked the driveway to the ICE facility and threw canisters at federal agents. The log documents that the Portland Police Bureau decided not to engage in the protest.
