Elderly Woman Facing Charges After Allegedly Assaulting a 70-Year-Old Resident of a Coos County Care Home
COOS COUNTY, Ore. — A 69-year-old woman was taken to Coos County Jail after allegedly hitting a man with the handle of a fixed-blade knife and threatening to shoot him and others at a care home in Powers, Coos County.
Assailant has previous Convictions for Felonies
Dorothy Shaw, who has previous convictions for felonies, is facing charges of first-degree criminal mistreatment, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of methamphetamine, and menacing.
According to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), Shaw allegedly hit a 70-year-old man with the handle of a 4-inch knife and threatened to shoot him and others in the home. The incident took place on 29 April.
A caregiver told Adult Protective Services that the victim needs sustained care, and he has since been relocated to another care home by the Oregon Department of Human Services’ Aging and People with Disabilities.
On Friday, 9 May, caregivers at the home told CCSO deputies that Shaw was allegedly in possession of a small revolver. The following day, deputies searched the home and seized a knife and 15.9 grams of methamphetamine found in Shaw’s purse.
