70-Year-Old Hiker Dies After 400-Foot Fall Near Horsetail Falls in Multnomah County

MULTNOMAH COUNTY, Ore. — A 70-year-old female hiker who fell an estimated 400 feet from a trail near Horsetail Falls, located at 56600 E Historic Columbia River Hwy, on Friday was found dead by emergency responders.

Tidings Context
This is not the first fatal fall near Horsetail Falls. MCSO reported two separate deaths in the area in 2024, including a 22 year old who fell 50 to 60 feet near Oneonta Trail.

Responding to a Cascade Locks Fire notification that the victim’s friend had called for help at around 1:45, reporting that the woman had fallen approximately a half mile up the trail,

Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO)  emergency responders determined that she had died from her injuries. The victim’s identity is not being released pending next-of-kin notification.
