PORTLAND, Ore. — The Trump administration is using a new terrorism designation against an Italy-based digital network to turn its broader crackdown on antifa into concrete federal action, with Portland-based Rose City Antifa specifically cited among the groups that relied on its services.

On Wednesday, the Trump Administration’s US Department of State announced that it has designated Autistici/Inventati, or A/I Collective, as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist.

The designation generally blocks A/I property and interests in property subject to U.S. jurisdiction and prohibits U.S. persons from engaging in transactions with the designated entity.

The department describes A/I as an Italy-based group that builds and operates digital infrastructure for Antifa cells and other far-left groups internationally.

According to the department, the collective provides services including encrypted chats and email, web hosting, secure video conferencing and streaming, anonymity tools and other digital services. It specifically identified “Oregon-based Rose City Antifa” as one organization that relied on A/I tools and services.

“The department alleges Rose City Antifa used those services to organize and incite violent and criminal acts in the United States.”

The department said use of the services included an attack on Customs and Border Protection helicopters that resulted in a federal indictment.

It also alleged that Rose City Antifa used A/I services to distribute doxing lists and illegally obtained personal information belonging to ICE personnel.

The State Department said that those materials were accompanied by calls for targeted attacks on ICE agents in the streets and “in their homes.
