Three Year Old Girl Saved From Dog Attack by Heroic Jacksonville FedEx Driver
JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — A heroic FedEx Driver, Chris Matthews, who saved a young girl from a vicious dog attack, received a Lifesaving Award from the Jackson County, Oregon, USA Board of Commissioners yesterday.
On December 6, 2024, he intervened, saving a three-year-old girl during a dog attack while he was delivering packages on Wagon Trail Road in Jacksonville around noon.
After seeing the girl being mauled by two Cane Corso dogs inside a pen, Chris ran toward the danger without hesitation, shouting to draw the dogs’ attention and calling for help.
With the aid of nearby workers, Chris got into the enclosure, distracted the dogs, and pulled the critically injured girl to safety so she could receive emergency medical care. In the meantime, thanks to Chris, she has fully recovered and is doing great.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) said they are proud to honor Chris for his extraordinary courage and lifesaving actions on that day. His heroism and quick thinking saved the girl’s life. Without his intervention, the outcome could have been far more tragic.
