Teen Tragically Killed in Klamath County Crash After Being Thrown into River from Highway 140 Bridge

KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore. — A 17-year-old boy was thrown over a bridge barrier into the Klamath River after a two-vehicle crash as he was checking for faults under the hood of one of the vehicles- a Honda CRV, on Saturday on Highway 140, near milepost 1, in Klamath County. Tragically, he was confirmed deceased after his body was recovered from the river.

The Oregon State Police (OSP) preliminary investigation indicated that an eastbound Dodge Durango, operated by Forrest Clinton George Fairchild (40) of Klamath Falls, crashed into a disabled Honda CRV partially blocking the eastbound lane on Highway 140.

The Honda was occupied by Kaylee Rae Volpe (18) of Klamath Falls, and the teenage male was in front of the vehicle attempting to diagnose the failure.

When the crash occurred, the teenager was thrown over a bridge barrier and was declared deceased after being recovered from the Klamath River.

The Dodge driver (Fairchild) suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital, while the Honda driver (Volpe) was reportedly uninjured.
