Teen Killed and Another Man Injured in Grants Pass Shooting, Suspect Arrested Hours Later

GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A teenager lost his life, and a 24-year-old man was seriously injured in a shooting in the 800 block of NE E Street, Grants Pass, early on Wednesday evening.

 

Suspect Fled the Scene but was Later Located in Jackson County

A multi-task force participated in a search for 21-year-old Kyler Talbot, who had fled the scene after the shooting. He was located several hours later in a hotel room in Jackson County.

Talbot was taken into custody without incident by the SWAT Team from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Grants Pass Police.

He is lodged in the Jackson County jail on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and two charges of unlawful use of a weapon.

The two victims of the shooting were transported by ambulance to Three Rivers Medical Center, where the 18-year-old male succumbed to his injuries. The second victim’s injuries were serious, but not life-threatening.

The investigation is overseen by the Grants Pass Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit, assisted by detectives from Oregon State Police, and the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office.

Grants Pass Police Department was assisted by the Southern Command of the Oregon State Police, the Sheriff’s Office of Jackson and Josephine Counties, Grants Pass Fire Rescue, AMR, the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office, Rogue Area Drug Enforcement, the Oregon State Police Crime Lab, and the United States Postal Inspection Service for their assistance in this case.
