Teen Driver Kills Eugene Pedestrian in Highway 99 Crash, OSP Investigates

Oregon State Police (OSP) responding to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Highway 99, near milepost 3, in Lane County on Sunday discovered a pedestrian, Gary Dale Obert (54) of Eugene, in the roadway. Obert was declared deceased at the scene.

OSP was assisted by the Oregon Department of Transport (ODOT). The preliminary investigation indicates that a southbound Acura MDX, driven by Jaidene Raie Torgison (18) of Creswell, struck Obert, who was in the roadway. Torgison and a juvenile male (17) passenger were reportedly uninjured.

The crash affected Highway 99 for about four hours during the on-scene investigation.
