Survey Reveals Which Oregon Companies Offer the Best Career Growth Opportunities
In a recent survey, three Oregon employers- Nike, Intel, and Providence- were rated the top places they would go for career development and upskilling, if these were their only criteria.
Best Employers In Oregon For Career Growth & Upskilling
The pace of change in most industries means that what was cutting-edge five years ago is often outdated today, making upskilling a career survival strategy. Learning new skills keeps you relevant, competitive, and open to opportunities that could otherwise pass you by.
Upskilling also helps with the optics, giving employers the impression you are adaptable and forward-thinking, qualities that carry weight no matter your field.
It is sometimes the difference between plateauing and progressing, and more people are gaining awareness that this could be the competitive edge they need to land their dream job.
Global outplacement and career development firm, Careerminds, recently polled 3,002 employees on which company they would join if career development and upskilling opportunities were the only criteria. The nationwide results are published on an Interactive map.
In Oregon, the top three companies were:
Nike, Beaverton
Headquartered just outside Portland, Nike remains one of Oregon’s most influential global brands and continues to be recognized as a workplace where creative energy and professional growth go hand in hand.
Employees value the company’s culture of innovation and structured career pathways in design, marketing, and operations.
Intel, Hillsboro
Oregon’s largest private employer and a cornerstone of Oregon’s economy, staff at Intel’s massive semiconductor facilities in Hillsboro point to extensive technical training and advancement opportunities in engineering and manufacturing.
Professional development at Intel is directly linked to the future of technology.
Providence Medical Group, Portland
Employees at Providence, one of Oregon’s biggest healthcare providers, employing thousands across hospitals and clinics statewide, highlight structured advancement in nursing, administration, and medical specialties, supported by education partnerships.
The healthcare giant is a trusted place where healthcare careers are nurtured through ongoing training.
But this is just part of the equation. Raymond Lee, President of Careerminds, said: “What really stood out in this survey is that employees don’t just want training; they want a clear map of where it can take them.”
Asked what steps employers can take to increase employee loyalty, the workers’ responses were:
- Opportunities to move into new departments or roles: 34%
- Mentorship or leadership programs: 29%
- Clear framework with defined steps: 22%
- Ongoing training to keep pace with AI: 15%
