Springfield Domestic Violence Suspect Found Dead After Woman Escapes and Reports Gunshot

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A Springfield woman, who reported hearing a gunshot from inside her home after fleeing to a neighbor’s house following a domestic violence incident, was later informed that the suspect had died.

The incident took place at 11.15 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, when officers from the Springfield Police Department (SPD) received reports about a domestic assault at a home on 60th Street and the subsequent sound of a gunshot.

The SPD,, assisted by a Metro drone team, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, and a crisis negotiator, was unable to make contact with the suspect. Later, footage from the drone revealed that the suspect had died from a self-inflicted wound.

The victim was treated for her injuries at a local hospital.

The incident is under investigation by detectives from the SPD, assisted by the Eugene Police Department and the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
