Salem Suspect Found in Bar After Domestic Violence Threats, Gun and Drugs Seized

SALEM, Ore. — A 40-year-old Salem resident was found by police in a bar on Monday night after allegedly being involved in a domestic violence incident in which he threatened his victim with a knife and a firearm.

 

The Police Discovered that the Suspect Was Wanted on Multiple Felony Charges

After his arrest on Monday night, Salem police discovered that Jeffery Helmer was wanted on multiple felony charges, including drug trafficking, weapons violations, and menacing.

Police found Helmer in a bar on Lancaster Drive NE, where he was taken into custody without incident. When police searched his vehicle, they uncovered a stolen handgun, which is believed to have been used by him in the domestic violence incident.

The police also uncovered evidence of cocaine manufacturing and delivery.

Helmer was lodged at the Salem Jail, where he is charged with domestic violence, menacing, possession of a stolen firearm, the illegal use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, manufacturing and delivery of cocaine, and additional drug-related offenses.

Helmer was scheduled for arraignment yesterday afternoon at the Marion County Circuit Court.
