Portland Police Face Fresh Scrutiny After 27-Year Veteran Officer Arrested Off Duty

PORTLAND, Ore. — An off-duty Portland police officer has been arrested and lodged in the Clackamas County Jail on charges of strangulation, fourth-degree assault, and harassment.

The charges relate to an incident on November 29, when deputies from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office responded to an incident involving off-duty 27-year veteran Officer Jimmy Pryce, who is assigned to PPB’s North Precinct.

Yesterday, the Portland Police Bureau’s Professional Standards Division was informed of the arrest and has placed Pryce on administrative leave.

In a statement, Chief Bob Day says the PPB is taking the matter ‘extremely seriously,’ adding that the charges against Pryce do not reflect the values or expectations of the PPB.

Chief Day confirmed that the case is under investigation by another agency, and that the PPB will also conduct its own investigation by the Internal Affairs Division.

“Our commitment to accountability and public trust remains unwavering,” assures the Portland police chief.

Chief Day says it is essential that thorough investigations of allegations of criminal conduct by PPB members are conducted to maintain integrity, efficacy, and accountability.
