Police Arrest Portland Man in Cold Case Shooting That Killed Mohamed Shaani Three Years Ago
PORTLAND, Ore. — Justin Ortega-Mejia (28), of Portland, has been arrested by East Precinct officers in connection with the death in 2022 of Mohamed Shaani.
Shaani Died of a Gunshot Wound
Shaani was 39 when he died of a gunshot wound near Northeast Milton Street and Northeast 82nd Avenue in the Madison South Neighborhood on March 27, 2022.
Officers attempted life-saving measures at the scene while waiting for the arrival of paramedics. However, Shaani was declared deceased by the paramedics.
Ortega-Mejia was detained last night and transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center, where he was formally charged with second-degree murder.
Shaani’s family has been notified of the arrest.
