Oregonians Could Pay Less for Electricity as New Energy Market Delivers $5.42 Million in Savings
The Extended Day-Ahead Market (EDAM)- PacifiCorp’s new regional energy market- delivered $5.42 million in gross benefits to the company and its customers since implementation on May 1, according to a new report.
Built on the foundation of WEIM- which helped PacifiCorp generate more than $1.2 billion in benefits for customers since the company joined the program when it was launched in 2014- EDAM lets participating utilities plan their energy needs.
PacifiCorp can then buy cheaper power a day in advance, and coordinate across the broader Western grid. This improves efficiency and reliability while supporting affordability for customers by identifying lower-cost energy resources before they are needed.
In the latest Western Energy Markets Quarterly Benefits Report, PacifiCorp’s EDAM is helping lower costs, strengthen reliability, and make better use of energy resources.
The Western Energy Imbalance Market delivered approximately $459.71 million in gross market benefits across its footprint during the second quarter.
