Oregon Moms Favor Family Time and Framed Photos Over Diet Aids and Dustpans on Mother’s Day, Survey Says

A framed memory is the most meaningful gift that you can give on Mother’s Day, according to 54% of mothers interviewed in a recent survey.

Steer Clear of Diet Aids, Cleaning Products, and Cookbooks

A personalized photo gift was the top choice of 2,504 mothers surveyed by Mixbook, with Oregon moms listing diet aids, cleaning products, and cookbooks as their three least-liked gifts.

What Oregon moms prefer is a framed memory and spending a quiet Mother’s Day with family.

Mom’s Least Favorite Gifts

Here is a closer look at what mothers in Oregon had to say about other least favorite gifts – gift vouchers for her favorite store, flowers from the gas station, self-help books on topics she has no interest in, and homemade coupon books made at the last minute.

It’s not always the biggest and fanciest present that wins the day. When moms in Oregon were asked to name the most meaningful gift they’ve ever received, the answers revealed a heartwarming trend – 27.5% said they loved receiving a handmade gift, 21% said a special treat a family outing, spa day, or brunch, 16% love receiving a handwritten card, 10% treasure a day of complete relaxation. In comparison, only 4% opted for a high-end gift.

What 46% of Oregon mothers want on their special day is to spend it quietly at home with the family, others prefer to be taken out for a restaurant meal, while the balance of respondents said a special outing or a large family gathering would fit the bill.

Now let’s take a look at what the children interviewed by Mixbook had to say about Mother’s Day.

The majority of respondents – 52% – said their mom’s reaction to a belated Mother’s Day gift was ‘it’s the thought that counts,’ while a further 34% claimed that their moms had not even noticed when they forgot her special day.

That’s more like wishful thinking on their part. Moms are known to be long-suffering but beware of the ominous silence, it could come back to haunt you.

These same forgetful offspring said cash was a quick fix for a belated greeting, while the more optimistic said a hug and a kiss would heal it all.

Moms are Surprisingly Forgiving

Despite these oversights, the majority of moms interviewed were surprisingly forgiving – 55% appreciate any effort, 16% said they don’t expect gifts, but a combined 24% admitted that they were bitterly disappointed if they were overlooked.

Remember this, kids, when you forget her special day, Mom does not! And remember, the next worst thing to forgetting Mother’s Day is to present her with a rushed and thoughtless gift.
