Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of Cave Junction Rider After Harley Davidson Collides with Tree on Highway 199

JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. — After responding to reports of a single-vehicle crash on Highway 199, near milepost 35, in Josephine County on Friday, at 9:08 a.m., Oregon State Police (OSP) investigators determined that 37-yer-old William Robert Murhpy of Cave Junction had died after his Harley Davidson motorcycle crashed into a tree.

OSP’s preliminary investigation established that the southbound Harley Davidson crossed over the northbound lane and entered a pullout area before leaving the improved portion of the roadway. After landing in a ditch, the bike and rider struck a tree.

The Illinois Valley Fire Department and ODOT assisted OSP. Murphy was declared deceased at the scene.
