Medford Man Arrested in Drive-By Shooting With Bail Set at $1 Million
MEDFORD, Ore. — A suspect in the shooting incident in Carnelian Street, Northeast Medford, late July, Joel Matthew Caswell, was arrested Wednesday and has been indicted on several charges, including Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
The court hearing followed an investigation by Medford detectives who linked Caswell’s blue Dodge pickup to the drive-by shooting. Caswell was arraigned on the indictment on September 3, with a bail set at $1 million.
Caswell was indicted on two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon and other charges after investigators and the District Attorney’s Office agreed that the available evidence does not support an allegation that Caswell intended to injure any occupants of the house, which would be evidence required to prove charges of attempted murder or assault. Officials say Caswell had other intentions for firing the shots into the home.
Caswell continues to be held in the Jackson County Jail.
